WHAT IF YOU COULD LIVE FOREVER?

Life On Earth Is Time Bound!

Life on earth is time bound, but eternity is timeless. Life on earth has a deadline. There is time to be born and a time to die (Ecclesiastes 3:2). Death is an inevitable reality that befalls all humankind. No one can deny that truth. No religion has ever denied that reality, not even the man who does not believe in the existence of God. Interestingly, the man who does not believe in God, does believe in death.

Death has an appointment with everyone who comes into the world. Every city, town and village has made a provision for that. That is why we have cemeteries and crematoriums. They are the very testimonials of the reality of death. The Bible says that it has been appointed for man to die once (Hebrews 9:27). That means everyone is destined to die at some point in time. Hence, we will all die one day. All humankind will experience death someday. This affirms the truth that we are all strangers in this world and this world is not our home.

Afraid Of Death!
There are some people who have made this world their home and have invested so much in it. These people are always afraid to die. The people who have all their riches and wealth laid up here on earth are afraid of death. To these people, death is a cruel enemy who comes to take them away from home, hence the fear. If it were possible, they will do everything in their might and with their wealth to prevent or stop death. Unfortunately, man has zero power over death. It’s not in the power of man to control when and how death should come. The word of God cannot be broken, it is destined for mortals to die once.

Not Afraid of Death!

There are also people who are not afraid of death. These are the people who know that no matter how long they live on earth, life on earth is temporary – so brief and short. These are the people who are careful not to trade eternity for a brief time on earth. They live with eternity in focus. They are aware that this world is not their home and they are just in transit – passing through. They are very much aware that they have a home somewhere beyond the sky with the Father God. Jesus said that in my Father’s house, there are many mansions. So He has gone to prepare a place for you and He will return to take you home. Home with God our Father is where we belong. We know our time on earth has an expiry date. Our shelf life on earth is short.  With this understanding, we ought to follow Jesus’ counsel and lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven rather than on earth (Matthew 6:19-21). Meaning we ought to value spiritual things that have eternal significance than material things. We need to focus on things that have eternal significance.

The people who have the eternity perspective of life do not regard death as an enemy, rather they see death as a means to get into eternity. To them, death is not the end of life, but a means to get home. They see death as a vehicle and a means of transiting into eternity. To them, death does not eliminate them from life, but death elicits the eternal life in them. Death does not take them away from home, but death takes them home. They ride on the wings and the power of death to get home. These are the people who are not afraid of death.

Still Afraid of Death!

If you are still afraid of death, that means you have not yet secured a home with the Father, God. The way to secure this home is to receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour. To secure this home with the heavenly Father, you have to go through God’s only approved way – Jesus the Son! In John‘s Gospel, Jesus declared that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life and NO ONE comes to the Father except through Him. Without the Father you have no home. Without the Son there is no other way to the Father (John 14:6). To get to the Father, you need Jesus the Son.

Jesus is God’s only approved way to the Father God. So therefore, if you do not have the Son, you have no access to the Father (Ephesians 2:18).

Secure A Home With The Father

If you desire to secure a home with the Father, then let’s look at some scriptural references and pray afterwards a short prayer together.

1 John 4:9,10&15 (ESV)

9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.

10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

Romans 10:9&10

9 That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

10For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

From the Scriptures, there are two necessary things one must do to be saved. One, you must confess (declare) with your mouth that Jesus is the Son of God. Secondly, you must believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead. If you can do these two simple things, you will be saved. Once you are saved, Jesus said in John 14:23 that He and the Father will come and make their home with you. That means, here on earth, the Father and the Son will make your home their dwelling place and if you should die someday, they will take you home for eternity.

Now let’s pray the prayer below together…

Prayer

Father God, I have come to you. I thank you for Jesus, your only begotten Son. You have sent Him into the world so that I may not die but live through Him. I acknowledge my sins. I repent of all my sins. I believe that Jesus died for my sins and arose from the death that I may have eternal life. Jesus, be my personal Lord and Saviour. Thank you for saving me. Amen!

Welcome into the family of God!

  1. From the write-up, you made it clear
that death will come no matter who is involved. You also make it clear that, no religion have denied the fact that death exist and everyone will die one day. Unfortunately, there are people who made this Earth their home and wanted to look for a way to death. But the have no power over death.

    I have two questions.
    1) Where did the spirit goes if people die…?
    2) If you confess Jesus, does Christians attitude come automatically…?

    1. Thank you for reading and asking questions.

QUESTION ONE: Where does the spirit go if people die…?

To answer this question, we must find out where the spirit that is in man comes from. God is the source of the spirit that is in man according to the holy Scriptures.

      Genesis 2:7
Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

      Job 27:3
As long as I have life within me, the breath of God in my nostrils,

      Job 12:10
The life of every living thing is in His hand, as well as the breath of all mankind.

      Job 32:8
But there is a spirit in a man, the breath of the Almighty, that gives him understanding.

      Job 33:4
The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

Now that it is clear that the spirit came from God, it is easy for us to answer the question, “Where did the spirit goes if people die…?”
The answer is, when people die, the spirit goes back to the One who gave it – God. The spirit returns to it Owner according to the Scriptures:

      Ecclesiastes 12:7
And the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

      Examples
      Luke 23:46
Then Jesus called out in a loud voice, “Father, into Your hands I commit My Spirit.” And when He had said this, He breathed His last.

      Acts 7:59
While they were stoning him, Stephen appealed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”

      SECOND QUESTION
If you confess Jesus, does Christians attitude come automatically…?

The answer is NO, NEVER, NOT ALL!
When one confesses Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour, that person is born anew as a new born baby. A process of growth has been initiated. A seed has been planted. John 1:12 says, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:”

The word “become” as used in this verse is from the Greek word “ginomai”. It means “to come into being, transitioning from one point (realm, condition) to another”. It signifies a change of condition, state or place, thereby implying growth.

1Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby (may grow up in your salvation):

      1 Corinthians 3:2
I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for solid food. In fact, you are still not ready,

      1 Corinthians 14:20
Brothers, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be mature.

      Ephesians 4:15
Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.

      2 Peter 1:3-11
3 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvellous glory and excellence.
4 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
5 IN VIEW OF ALL THIS, MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO RESPOND TO GOD’S PROMISES. SUPPLEMENT YOUR FAITH WITH A GENEROUS PROVISION OF MORAL EXCELLENCE, AND MORAL EXCELLENCE WITH KNOWLEDGE,
6 AND KNOWLEDGE WITH SELF-CONTROL, AND SELF-CONTROL WITH PATIENT ENDURANCE, AND PATIENT ENDURANCE WITH GODLINESS,
7 AND GODLINESS WITH BROTHERLY AFFECTION, AND BROTHERLY AFFECTION WITH LOVE FOR EVERYONE.
8 THE MORE YOU GROW LIKE THIS, THE MORE PRODUCTIVE AND USEFUL YOU WILL BE IN YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST.
9 But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins.
10 So, dear brothers and sisters, work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. Do these things, and you will never fall away.
11 Then God will give you a grand entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

From the above scriptural references, it is obvious that Christians attitude or character does not come automatically when one confesses Jesus as his personal Lord and Saviour. From the point of the new birth to maturing into the full stature of Christ, the believer must make every effort to supplement or ADD TO HIS FAITH MORAL EXCELLENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SELF-CONTROL, PATIENT ENDURANCE, GODLINESS, BROTHERLY AFFECTION, LOVE FOR EVERYONE.

The seven things mentioned above describe the attitude or the character of the Christian. According to the Scriptures, the one who confesses Christ must transit from the “old man” to the “new man”. This transition is never automatic, it demands diligence or hard work by the grace of God and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

      Thank you.
